The convention is the largest annual gathering of college journalists and advisers in the country and this year will be held October 28 – November 1, in Austin, Texas.
The WJI sessions will be taught by Smith and Drs. Wally Metts (Spring Arbor University) and August Grant (University of South Carolina). The focus of this year’s WJI team will be convergence media with instruction in digital media and surviving the current newspaper revenue crisis.
Smith, one of America’s leading authorities on convergence, backpack, and multi-platform journalism, has written numerous articles and books and has been associated with WJI for several years. Smith will lecture on “Going Digital Without Going Broke.” Metts is currently the president of the Associate of Christian Collegiate Media and has been a frequent presenter at CMA conventions in the past. His topic will be “Survive and Thrive: Five Models for Newspapers in the Coming Decade.” Grant, a pioneer in convergence media instruction, will speak on “Online Models That Will Give Your Newspaper Greater Reach.” All the sessions are free to college journalists and advisers attending the convention.

IAM Seeking Art for Small Works Auction
We are seeking submissions for IAM's fall small works auction! This popular program provides exposure to IAM artists while giving art lovers access to high-quality, reasonably priced small works of art to hang in their home or give as a gift. This fall, IAM's auction will be conducted online! Anyone may bid on art during the auction period through an IAM eBay storefront. Bids will start at a minimum amount and be open through the month-long auction period. Submissions must be received by Thursday, October 15. The auction will open online at noon (EST) on Friday, November 6 and run until noon on Friday, December 4.

Hope Revolution Walk Oct. 3
If you would like to join us in supporting this outstanding event, please go toChildren throughout Cambodia and Southeast Asia are suffering from an epidemic, an epidemic of poverty and abuse. Girls as young as five years old are being sold into prostitution by family or friends overwhelmed by poverty. These girls are victimized over and over, without a voice, a defender, a means of salvation. The very worst of humanity preys on the innocence of these young girls. The New Song Project of the Ratanak Foundation seeks to give hope to the children lost to the sex trafficking in Cambodia. Girls are rescued from brothels by trained caregivers and taken to a safe haven where they learn to heal and again build a life. The Ratanak Foundation is committed to bringing life to the killing fields of Cambodia. We ask for your help in bringing a revolution of hope to a world of despair.
On Saturday October 3, 2009 walkers will be gathering in Brooklyn, NY at Dyker Beach Golf Course as a part of the Hope Revolution, the first annual walk to benefit New Song Project, an outreach of the Ratanak Foundation. Walkers will gather at 8:30 am and begin their five, ten, or fifteen mile trek through Brooklyn, along the shoreline to Coney Island.
IAM Artist Fleur de Lee Antique Reproduction Jewelry is partnering with the Ratanak Foundation to make this special event possible.
All funds raised will be used by the New Song Project to rescue the girls sold into prostitution throughout Cambodia. More information about the Ratanak Foundation and the New Song Project can be found here. (You may also make a secure, tax-deductible donation here.)

Checks may be made payable to the Ratanak Foundation . Please mail check to: Leanora Ortiz, 104-Gatling Place Brooklyn, New York 11209
