Paula has worked with Youth With A Mission since 1987; has a BFA and MFA in printmaking, and have been teaching for 25 years. She's worked with Vietnamese Boatpeople, gang members (children thru adults) in South Africa, and also trained government professors in Albania and Sierra Leone, and artist missionaries in South Africa and Hawaii.
*Any children of attendees, ages 6 and up, are welcome to attend a creative visual session based on affirmations from Psalm 139. We will use a variety of drawing materials to design and draw an art piece which celebrates our uniqueness as individuals, specially created by God. Anyone can participate, regardless of ability. Children need to be well-behaved and focused to participate.

REDEMPTIVE CULTURE: Creating the World That Ought To Be
International Arts Movement gears up for 2007 Conference February 22nd to 24th, 2007
(New York City, NY) – “IAM conferences are the best venue I know of where artists immersed in everyday life can reflect on God and human flourishing . . .”
Artists and creative professionals from around the world will gather at the Tribeca Performing Arts Center of the Borough of Manhattan Community College for the 2007 Annual International Arts Movement (IAM) Conference. This year’s theme “Redemptive Culture: Creating the World that Ought to Be” will explore how to engage culture that is, and ultimately create a world that is good, true & beautiful. With last year’s conference a smashing success, IAM strives to foster regional development at this year’s event. Patricia Heaton, Emmy-winning actress, Everybody Loves Raymond and presenter at last year’s conference comments, “IAM is a great way to meet other artists from around the country and get to know how they are using their gifts..."
The keynote speaker will be musician and theologian, Jeremy Begbie, the Associate Principal of Ridley Hall at University of Cambridge and director of the international research project, "Theology Through the Arts." Famed local New Yorker, Daniel Libeskind, master designer of Ground Zero and the first Cultural Ambassador for Architecture appointed by the U.S. Department of State will speak on “Breaking Ground” and his original architectural plans for the 9/11 World Trade Memorial. Dick Staub, broadcaster, writer and public speaker will moderate the conference. See Rob Mathes in concert, Susie Ibarra, and various other performing artists!
Lectures and workshops will be paired with portfolio salons, medieval mystery plays and much more. Notable speakers also include Karen Goodwin, Executive Broadway Producer of Les Miserables and Miss Saigon; Karin Coonrod, Director with American Repertory Theater; and William Edgar, Department Chair & Professor of Apologetics at Westminster Theological Seminary. Take a tour of Ground Zero with a chaplain from the 9/11 tragedy, see the latest art at the Chelsea galleries tour or the Museum of Biblical Art tours, connect with artists from around the world at the IAM Café, and view the conference art exhibition juried by James Elaine (Curator, Hammer Museum of UCLA, CA) and Josie Browne (Director, Max Protetch Gallery in Chelsea, NYC).

Workshops
2 workshops are provided each afternoon Friday 2/23/07 and Saturday 2/24/07. "A" workshops are community-oriented and scheduled for the first half of the afternoon, and "B" workshops issue-oriented for the second half. Registrants select 1 workshop each from A and B offerings (two per day) on each afternoon (four total). Please note we cannot accommodate workshop selection changes at this time, so choose carefully. Juried Opportunities
Concurrent with the conference, IAM is hosting a Juried Art Exhibition "The World that Ought to Be" as well as a NEW Juried Music Competition! Once you have registered and paid, you will receive a confirmation email with specific submission instructions. Only PAID registrants can submit entries.
JURIED ART: Honors and cash prizes of 3 "Distinguished Artists" and 1 "Best of Show" will be announced at the conference. Entries must be submitted via email electronically by January 31 February 4, 2007, so register now! Selected artists will be notified 2 weeks prior to conference with further details. If you are selected, you MUST arrive early to NYC to help hang the show on Thursday morning, February 22nd (or send someone with your work to help in your place).
JURIED MUSIC: A new addition to the 2007 conference! The juried winner will play a 30-minute opening set for the Rob Mathes band's public concert on Friday, February 23rd, 2007 at 8:30pm. Concert will be held at Theater 1 of the Tribeca Performing Arts Center (seats 900+ people). Winner will also receive a multi-track recording of their live performance that evening. Entries must be submitted via email electronically by January 31, 2007 February 4, 2007, so register now! Selected artists will be notified 2 weeks prior to conference with further details. If you are selected, you MUST arrive early to NYC on Friday morning, February 23rd for a sound check and run-through.
